In finity Windows showcases not only Miyakawa's latest pieces but also a variety of study models and small artworks that reflect his ongoing exploration of architectural design and artistic discipline. Miyakawa systematically disassembles the conventions of objects, sometimes displacing materials from their typical applications, at other times inverting preconceived notions of permanence and challenging expectations of stability. By addressing familiar functions with novel forms, Miyakawa’s practice compels us to recalibrate relationships with our tools and surroundings.
The gallery asked Miyakawa to create two distinct site-specific windows. In one window, encounter Aluminum Folding Study #0 (2024), a minimalist sculpture crafted from a single sheet of aluminum, simply cut and folded. This piece distills form and simplicity into their most essential components, reflecting Miyakawa’s pursuit of the core principles of materiality. The other window, titled 2x4=4x2 (2024), presents display shelves made from 2x4 construction material, showcasing small artworks and study models. This installation serves as a canvas for merging the everyday with the artistic, creating a dialogue between utility and creativity.
